Event description

Interested in making a difference in how stop and search is monitored in Sutton?

Join us for a special taster session of the Sutton Stop and Search Community Monitoring Group (SS CMG).

This meeting is designed for residents, community members, students, professionals, and anyone interested in learning more about how local communities can help hold policing to account.

The Sutton Stop and Search Community Monitoring Group is an independent group of volunteers who work with local police to scrutinise the use of stop and search powers. Community Monitoring Groups play an important role across London by reviewing stop and search data, examining body-worn video footage, and providing community perspectives to help ensure that stop and search is used fairly, proportionately, and respectfully.

At this taster session you will:

• Learn what the Community Monitoring Group does and how it operates

• Meet current members and hear about their experiences

• Understand how stop and search is monitored locally

• Explore opportunities to get involved in reviewing data and body-worn video footage

• Ask questions in an informal and welcoming environment

• Find out what commitment is involved in becoming a member

No previous experience or specialist knowledge is required. We welcome people from all backgrounds and are particularly keen to hear from those whose communities are disproportionately affected by stop and search, as well as young people and residents with an interest in community safety, justice, and accountability.

By joining the session, you'll gain insight into how community voices can contribute to greater transparency, accountability, and trust between residents and policing.

Whether you're considering becoming a member or simply want to understand more about stop and search and community oversight, we'd love to meet you.

Places are free, but registration is required.
