What is this service?

Kate’s Counselling provides a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can explore what is happening in your life, understand yourself more deeply and begin to move towards meaningful change.

I believe counselling is not about telling you what to do or trying to “fix” you. It is about having someone alongside you who genuinely listens, helps you make sense of your experiences and supports you to find your own way forward.

Whether you are struggling with your mental health, experiencing difficult emotions, processing past experiences or simply feeling stuck, counselling can provide the opportunity to slow down, understand what you need and reconnect with yourself.

Heal • Grow • Thrive

About Kate

I am a qualified, experienced and professionally registered counsellor with a unique background spanning psychology, criminal justice and therapeutic practice.

I bring together my professional experience, counselling training and genuine understanding of people to provide an approach that is compassionate, trauma-informed, person-centred and individualised.

I understands that asking for help can be difficult. You do not need to have everything figured out before you start counselling.

A Safe Space to Be Yourself

At Kate’s Counselling, you do not have to pretend that everything is okay.

Counselling can provide a space where you can:

  • Talk openly without fear of judgement

  • Make sense of difficult thoughts and emotions

  • Explore experiences that may have affected you

  • Understand patterns in your relationships or behaviour

  • Develop greater self-awareness

  • Build confidence and self-esteem

  • Learn healthier ways of managing emotions

  • Develop coping and self-regulation strategies

  • Explore what you really want from your life

  • Begin to establish healthier boundaries

  • Process difficult or traumatic experiences at your own pace

  • Feel heard, understood and accepted

Sometimes you may not even know exactly what you need help with. You may simply know that you don't feel like yourself anymore.

That's okay too.

You don't need to arrive with the right words or a clear explanation. We can work that out together.

Trauma-Informed Support

Kate's approach recognises that our past experiences can influence how we think, feel, behave and relate to other people.

A trauma-informed approach means creating a therapeutic environment where you feel:

  • Safe

  • Respected

  • Heard

  • In control of your choices

  • Able to work at your own pace

  • Free from judgement

There is no expectation that you have to disclose anything before you are ready.

Your experiences belong to you, and counselling should work with you rather than being something done to you.

Integrative Approach

Kate believes that every person is different.

There is no single counselling approach that works for everyone, which is why sessions are tailored around you, your experiences and your goals.

Integrative counselling places importance on:

  • Acceptance

  • Empathy

  • Authenticity

  • Respect

  • Choice

  • Collaboration

  • Your individual experiences

  • Your ability to develop and grow

  • A therapy that works for you

The relationship between counsellor and client is central to the work.

You will be encouraged to explore your experiences at a pace that feels manageable, while developing a greater understanding of yourself and what you need.

Neuro-affirming and Inclusive Counselling

Kate’s Counselling aims to provide an inclusive and neuro-affirming space.

You will not be expected to fit yourself into a particular idea of what you "should" be.

Your individual way of thinking, communicating, processing emotions and experiencing the world will be respected.

I aim to create an environment where YOU can feel comfortable being themselves and where differences are understood rather than judged.

Domestic Abuse and Relationship Support

Kate has a particular understanding of the emotional impact that unhealthy and controlling relationships can have.

Counselling can support people who are:

  • Recovering from an unhealthy relationship

  • Rebuilding confidence following abuse

  • Struggling with self-worth

  • Learning to establish boundaries

  • Questioning relationship patterns

  • Processing difficult experiences

  • Trying to reconnect with who they were before the relationship

  • Adjusting to life following separation

The focus is not on judgement or telling you what you should do.

It is about helping you understand your experience, your needs and your choices.

What Makes Kate’s Counselling Different?

Kate brings together several areas of professional experience to create a genuinely holistic understanding of the person sitting in front of her.

Professional experience

  • Qualified therapeutic counsellor

  • Professionally registered

  • Psychology graduate

  • Criminal Justice graduate

  • More than 25 years' experience within criminal justice and probation

  • Experience working with complex and challenging presentations

  • Experience within therapeutic environments

  • Experience supporting young people and adults

I believe that people are more than their problems, diagnoses or past experiences.

Counselling That Works Around You

Kate’s Counselling offers online counselling across the UK, providing flexibility for clients who may find travelling difficult or prefer the comfort and privacy of their own environment.

Online sessions are available on weekday evenings, making counselling more accessible around work, education and family commitments.

Face-to-face counselling is also available at ORU Sutton on Tuesdays from 2pm. Other locations are available on a case by case basis.

Affordable and Accessible Counselling

Kate is passionate about making counselling more accessible.

Therapy should not feel like something that is only available to people who can afford high private-practice fees.

Where possible, Kate aims to provide accessible counselling options while maintaining professional standards and a high-quality therapeutic service.

What to Expect From Your First Session

Starting counselling can feel daunting, particularly if you have never spoken to a counsellor before.

Your first session is an opportunity to begin getting to know one another and to talk about what has brought you to counselling.

You can expect:

  • A warm and welcoming approach

  • No judgement

  • Time to explain what you are experiencing

  • An opportunity to discuss what you would like from counselling

  • Space to ask questions

  • Discussion about confidentiality and boundaries

  • Agreement about how you would like to work together

You do not need to have a perfectly prepared explanation.

Just start where you are.

Your Journey

Counselling is not about becoming a different person.

It is about developing a better understanding of yourself, recognising what you need and finding ways to move forward that feel right for you.

The journey may involve:

Heal Understanding and processing experiences that have caused pain.

Grow Developing self-awareness, confidence, boundaries and healthier ways of coping.

Thrive Moving towards a life that feels more authentic, fulfilling and manageable.

Progress is different for everyone.

There is no fixed timetable and no expectation that healing happens in a straight line.

The Kate’s Counselling Philosophy

At the heart of Kate’s Counselling is the belief that you deserve to be heard.

You deserve a space where you don't have to minimise what you are feeling.

You deserve to be treated with compassion and respect.

And you deserve the opportunity to understand yourself without judgement.

Kate's role is to walk alongside you — not to judge you, direct you or tell you who you should be.

Together, counselling can help you make sense of where you are, understand how you got here and explore where you want to go next.

Heal. Grow. Thrive.

Kate’s Counselling — compassionate support for when life feels difficult, overwhelming or uncertain.
