The role of the Governors

The legal duties for Governors are set out in the Children and Families Act 2014, the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and the Equality Act 2010.
They include to:

Use their best efforts to make sure that a child with SEND gets the support they need. This means doing everything they can to meet children and young people's SEND.

Have a clear approach to identifying and responding to SEND.

Publish information on their websites about the implementation of the board's policy for pupils with SEND. This includes the school SEND Information Report.

Ensure that there is a qualified teacher designated as SENDCo for the school.
They must publish information about:

Admission of disabled children

The steps taken to prevent disabled children being treated less favourably than others

The facilities provided to assist access

Their accessibility plans
