Dogs Trust Freedom is a free and confidential dog fostering service for people fleeing situations of domestic abuse.

As many refuges aren’t able to accept pets, we understand that dog owners might feel unable to leave their home until they know your dog is somewhere safe too. We place dogs with a loving foster carer for an average of 6-9 months, so owners can access a refuge or emergency housing, knowing their dog will be cared for until they are ready to have them back with you.

Dog owners' can refer to our fostering service, or this can be done by their support worker. We would need to be able to speak to both dog owner and support worker to make a referral for fostering.

What we offer?

  • All the benefits of sharing your home with a dog, typically for 6 to 9 months
  • All expenses including food, equipment and veterinary care covered
  • Full support from our experienced Freedom team
  • Pride in knowing you’re helping somebody and their dog find Freedom
