The park was formed from the grounds of four large suburban properties situated along Carshalton Road and Manor Park Road. The largest house, situated on Manor Park Road, was called Manor Park House and is where the park got its name from. Sutton Urban District Council (SUDC) procured Manor Park House and it grounds in 1914.
In the same year, on the 25th May, the park was officially opened by the Chairman of the Urban District Council. A few years later, in 1924-25, the iconic water fountain was donated by Councillor Charles Yates who was Chairman of SUDC.
