UPCYCLING - This is our most popular enterprise at Nickel Support, in which the team produces wonderful products, which are sold in our ‘Interestingly Different’ shop and online. The team learns the art of turning a tired/old piece of furniture into something beautiful. The trainees are involved in all aspects of the process, from designing the piece of furniture, through to giving the final coat of wax.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT - We are always thinking about new enterprises and this session is dedicated to finding new products we can develop. Trainees are currently developing a range of teabags. They are experimenting with various new recipes and techniques to try and create delicious flavours to sell, which will increase profits and, in turn, enable us to employ more trainees.
FOOD ENTERPRISES - This enterprise is mainly focused around our jam & relish products, which have been lovingly developed over the past few years. Trainees are involved in all aspects of the creation of these wonderful products, including the making, the ‘jarring’ up and labelling. Alongside this they also bake a range of cakes to be sold each week at our cafe.
RETAIL WORK (CARSHALTON ONLY) - Trainees have the opportunity to work in the Interestingly Different shop, getting involved with all aspects of retail. This includes serving our customers, pricing, delivering/collecting furniture and creating shop floor displays.
ONLINE SALES - Many of the products we make are sold online through different sales channels. Trainees learn the steps needed to ensure we are showing the products in the best possible light, including creating a description of the product and photographing it.
CAFE (CARSHALTON ONLY) - This session gives our trainees the opportunity to learn new skills in a real work environment. Trainees get the opportunity to learn how to deal with customers as well as serving skills, understanding food hygiene and undertaking barista training. Trainees are also interacting with customers which helps them build confidence and communication skills.
"Alex's life has been completely transformed since joining Nickel in 2014. Working with the team has brought new purpose to his life.
