Cycling can help young people with SEND build confidence, improve their health, make friends and travel more independently.
Many organisations offer inclusive cycling sessions where you can try different types of bikes, including adapted cycles. Staff and volunteers are on hand to help you find the right bike and build your cycling skills.
Cycling for Young People with SEND
EcoLocal runs inclusive cycling sessions at the David Weir Leisure Centre in Sutton. A range of cycles, including adapted cycles, are available.
Adult sessions are available for young people aged 14+ and adults. Family sessions are available for children aged 7+ during school holidays.
Wheels for Wellbeing supports disabled people of all ages and abilities to enjoy cycling. Sessions take place at nearby venues, including Croydon Sports Arena. Participants can try a range of adapted cycles with support from trained instructors and volunteers.
Wheels for All is a national charity that helps disabled people and those with additional needs access cycling. Sessions are available at nearby centres in Croydon and Epsom. Adapted cycles include trikes, tandems and handcycles.
Through the Wheels for All network, you may also be able to access Pedal Away, which offers supported group rides to help people become more confident and independent cyclists.
