Charging policy for young people of sixth form age (16-19)

  1. Where it is agreed that travel assistance is required in the form of a private bus service or solo taxi, we will ask you (the young person of sixth form age) or your parents/carers to contribute towards the transport costs.

  2. Where you are receiving Independent Travel Training, or you or your parent carer are receiving mileage reimbursement or a Personal Travel Budget, then this charge will not apply.

  3. For the academic year 2024/2025 (and for thereafter unless otherwise stated) the contribution will be as follows irrespective of the distance between the home and place of learning:

- £400 for young people whose families are eligible for free school meals OR eligible for the Council’s Tax reduction scheme, young people in care, care leavers, young people eligible for the Council tax reduction scheme in their own right.

- £800 for all other young people.

  1. The charge is based on transport being provided 5 days a week. The charge would be on a pro-rata basis where required to reflect the number of days you attend your educational setting.

  2. For more information about finding out if you are eligible for Free School Meals or for the Council Tax Reduction Scheme please follow the links.

  3. Payments need to be made within 30 days of the Council confirming the transport fees that apply. You or your parents/carers will receive an invoice from the Council with payment terms. You or your parents/carers will be able to choose whether to pay the annual sum in one or to pay monthly instalments via a direct debit.

  4. Any non-payment will result in the withdrawal of transport. In these instances, you or your parents/carers will be notified in writing of the date that transport will end. Transport will not be reinstated until any outstanding charges are paid.
